Montejunas was quite peculiarly asked to leave and take his chance elsewhere after a failed physical with the team.Though Brooklyn Nets signed him to an offer sheet recently, it still looks like he will be looking for a different deal somewhere else reports, LakersNation.

Now with rumors abound, looks like the Lithuanian 7-footer will be headed to the New Orleans Pelicans, according to ESPN's Marc Stein:

"The Pelicans are in the process of finalizing a one-year deal with Donatas Montejunas at the veteran minimum, according to league sources."

A similar statement has been made by Shams Charania of The Vertical on Yahoo Sports:

"Donatas Montejunas and the New Orleans Pelicans are in serious talks toward a contract, league sources tell The Vertical."

Montejunas missed matches, most of them in the 2015-16 season before making a return for the final 2 months of the regular season. He averaged 6.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in only 14.8 minutes of play over 37 games reports, ChatSports .

One of the teams to show interest were the Los Angeles Lakers when they brought him in for a workout fuelling another set of speculations which never saw the light of the day with the Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak being unsure of signing a player with injury issues in the frontcourt.

This news can be further confirmed with the Pelicans waiving veteran wing Reggie Williams (a 7-year veteran who averaged 5.0 points and 1.2 rebounds in five games with the Pelicans this season ) indicating that Montejunas will be getting a veteran minimum contract and thereby minimizing the risk for the Pelicans. This looks like a big setback for the athlete in comparison to his previous contract offer with Brooklyn which was incentive filled four-years, $37million contract. He is likely to play next to Anthony Davis as Montejunas' ability to space the floor with his shot will be a beneficial add-on for the player.
