Manchester United has confirmed that Spaniard Juan Mata will join the club.

According to the club's Twitter account, "CONFIRMED: #mufc has reached agreement with Chelsea for the transfer of Juan Mata for a club-record fee.#mufcmata.

"The deal for Mata is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course. #mufcmata," added the club.

The fee for Mata is a reported 37 million pounds, giving Chelsea a 14 million pound profit on the player that they bought from Valencia for 23 million back in 2011.

Mata's performances at Chelsea up until this season had been remarkable as the Spaniard managed to win the team MVP in each season. Mata put up six goals and 13 assists in his first year with the club and followed it up with a tremendous 12 goal and 12 assist campaign; these totals only account for the Premier League. Mata has been just as great in other competitions as well. In 2011-12, he put up four goals and four assists in just seven FA Cup matches; he also contributed two goals and three assists in Chelsea's Champions League championship run. In 2012-13, he had one goal and four assists in Chelsea's Europa League Championship run and also added three goals and three assists in Chelsea's failed Champions League defense.

Now he heads to a Manchester United side that is desperate need of a lift.

While 2013-14 has been putrid for him (zero goals and just two assists in 13 games for the Blues) he is still young enough to keep up his past production and be a force for a team that is coming off a championship season. Look for Mata's new start to favor both sides.
