The Hollywood anime classic "Ghost in the Shell" is soon going to hit the big screens next month. While the anticipation is at the peak, several new character posters for the forthcoming marvel have been seen.

The live-action adaptation of Masamune Shirow's anime hit "Ghost in the Shell" is gearing up to hit the theaters. Until then, the film's official account on Twitter has launched the photos of characters with the assistance of video cards, including the leads, reports IGN.

"Ghost in the Shell" includes protagonist Scarlett Johansson as the cyborg cop Major. Under her stewardship, the anti-terroristic task force also known as Section 9 operates. The team indulges in dealing with hackers, terrorists, and cyber-criminals, reports Film News.

The rest of the cast also includes Game of Thrones' Pilou Asbaek as Major's partner Batou. Other cast includes Chin Han's Togusa, Yutaka Izumihara's Saito, Lasarus Ratuere's Ishikawa, Tawanda Manyimo's Borma, Takeshi Kitano's Aramaki and Danusia Samal's Ladriya.

The movie landed amidst grave controversy as some of the fans criticized Scarlett's casting as the main lead. The film ultimately led to the accusations claiming that the filmmakers are "whitewashing" the role that was originally Japanese in nature. Since the main role was Japanese in the manga and anime, many people are addressing this act as unacceptable.

Based on this controversy, Scarlett addressed the ongoing verbal lashes in an interview. She disregarded any element of discrimination and established that diversity is the main essence of Hollywood. She also maintained that she would never offend any role.

She also emphasized that having a female lead for such franchise is a huge opportunity. Certainly, I feel the enormous pressure of that--the weight of such a big property on my shoulders."

"Ghost in the Shell" was followed by three more movies and a number of video games as well. It is directed by newcomer Rupert Sanders and written by Jamie Moss, William Wheeler, and Ehren Kruger.

"Ghost in the Shell" is one of the few anime marvels to make its way to the western film industry back in the 90's. It is slated to hit the big screens on March 31, 2017.
