A new "God of War" game is coming on PlayStation 4 and there are rumors that it could be a multiplayer game. There is no official release date yet for the PS4-exclusive game but reports say that it might be released this year.

A listing made on Sony Santa Monica Studio's website looking for a multiplayer programmer specialist has fueled the rumors that "God of War" may be multiplayer. Game Rant reports that the listing does not confirm any rumors but it only points to a possibility.

The outlet adds that the upcoming "God of War" game on PS4 is not the first title in the franchise to have a multiplayer feature. In fact, "God of War: Ascension" had parts where players could team up with others to play cooperatively and competitively with one another.

If the upcoming "God of War" game on PS4 will have a multiplayer mode, it will be different from "Ascension." The upcoming game's perspective will be in third-person which is different from the latter's fixed camera perspective.

Games Radar reports that "God of War" director Cory Barlog has previously said that the upcoming game will not have a multiplayer mode. The Santa Monica Studio's listing could indicate that the entire team may have a change of heart and would like to incorporate the feature in the game.

However, the listing for the multiplayer game programmer was published late February. This could also mean that the "God of War" team may be filling up a recently vacated position or is adding another expert. The game is rumored to be released this year but there are no official announcements yet. Reports say that the game may likely be released before the end of 2017.
