The United States has been the United Kingdom's most powerful and important ally for decades. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden's visit to London to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II proves how strong that alliance is.

The late Queen is currently lying in state at Westminster Hall, with the first couple signing the condolence books at Lancaster House. During his visit on Sunday, Biden said Queen Elizabeth II was "the same in person as her image - decent, honorable and all about service."

He continued showering the late monarch with praise, adding that they had met a lot of consequential people, but the ones who really stood out were the ones "whose relationship and interaction with you" were consistent with their reputation.

Joe Biden's Message to the Royal Family and the United Kingdom

Joe Biden, who is no stranger to losing loved ones, having already lost his first wife and son, spoke about the loss that the Royal Family and the United Kingdom might be feeling.

He noted that this loss leaves a giant hole that is hard to overcome. However, the president said he told King Charles III that "she's going to be with him every step of the way."

Biden wrote a lengthy message in the condolence book and said in part that he and his wife were honored to have met Queen Elizabeth II and felt her warmth as she treated everyone with dignity and respect, according to CNN.

According to Reuters, King Charles III hosted a state dinner on Sunday night for the foreign leaders who went to the United Kingdom to pay their last respects to the Queen.
