As she prepares to leave the "Grey's Anatomy" series after 19 seasons, Ellen Pompeo shared a heartfelt farewell message.

On Thursday, the actress said she was "eternally grateful and humbled" by the "love and support" from the viewers. Pompeo is one of the three original cast members currently working on the drama series that started in 2005 that is about the lives and work of doctors at a hospital in Seattle.

According to Fox News, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. are the other two. In her emotional goodbye note she posted on Instagram, with a photo of her in front of an "All you need is Love" neon sign, Pompeo said: "I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons!"

"Through it all... none of it...would have been possible without the best fans in the world. You all are RIDERS and you all have made the ride so fun and ICONIC!!" she added.

Ellen Pompeo Promised Fans She Will Be Back After 'Grey's Anatomy'

In August, Deadline reported that Ellen Pompeo will reduce her role as Meredith Grey, the hospital's famous surgeon. But in her Instagram post, Pompeo also assured her fans that she would be back.

"This isn't your first time on the rollercoaster... you know the show must go on, and I'll definitely be back to visit. With a lot of love and immense gratitude XoE," she wrote.

In November last year, the co-founder of Betr Remedies told Insider that she tried to convince several ABC workers to end the show.

"I feel like I'm the super naive one who keeps saying, 'But what's the story going to be, what story are we going to tell?' And everyone is like, "Who cares, Ellen? It makes a gazillion," Pompeo noted.

The actress' post is a few months early because viewers of "Grey's Anatomy" saw her return to Grey-Sloan to bid her goodbye to her coworkers in the midseason premiere trailer. The episode will air on February 23.

Fans and Friends React to Ellen Pompeo's Farewell Message

The comment section of her Instagram post was filled with fans and celebrities expressing their excitement and support for Ellen Pompeo's future projects.

"Wow, my love, that was quite a roller coaster!" Jodie Turner-Smith wrote. "Lots of love and profound curiosity for what comes next."

"19 incredible seasons of trailblazing," Dominick Thompson said. "Looking forward to seeing what's next for you as you transition."

A fan said: "You were fantastic, @ellenpompeo... We all related to Mer at one point or another in those 19 seasons. Have followed Mer from the start and loved it all for years."

It was announced before the start of the new season that Meredith Grey would have a reduced role after Pompeo limited her appearance. According to Metro, her signature voiceover will remain for a few episodes, and she will continue to serve as "Grey's Anatomy's" executive producer.

In a recent episode, Meredith announced that she would be leaving Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital to take a post in Boston. A forthcoming episode preview of "Grey's Anatomy" shows a celebration in her honor as she says goodbye.
