Colombia Christmas Destinations

Christmas celebrations in Colombia start on December 7th, with the celebration of Dia de las Velitas or "Day of the Little Candles."

Houses and streets are decorated with candles, lanterns, and lots of lights for this occasion.

Medellin

Medellin has earned its reputation for having the most festive destinations in Colombia, with its best light displays.

It even surpassed its local fame threshold when Medellin's Christmas lights were recognized by National Geographic as one of the world's top 10.

The city spends as much as $10 million every year, welcoming more than four million visitors.

The event is one of the city's top tourist attractions and the demand usually for accommodations usually start in December.

The Museum of Antioquia offers free admission to everyone while parks and museums have a free entrance offer for children under 12 during the Christmas period.

Cali

Cali goes big on its Christmas festivals starting with the main event of the six-day festival called Salsodromo, which is a huge parade of thousands of salsa dancers on Christmas afternoon.

On December 25, the celebration becomes a real party with events full of parades and concerts.

The Salsodromo is launched every year and is considered to be one of Cali Fair's most attractive events.

It prides itself on being a parade with stops, which allows the audience to appreciate the choreographies of the salsa dancers.

Bogota

Bogota participates in the traditional Ruta de la Navidad or Christmas Route, which shows every inch of the city.

Spending time in Bogota around the Christmas holidays allows visitors to enjoy free concerts, a night bicycle ride on Ciclovia, and a stroll in the city's parks.

The city also observes the candle lighting of the Dia de las Velitas, which is held on December 7th.

Nine days before Christmas Eve, the city presents a fireworks display from the Plaza de Bolivar, which is organized by the French pyrotechnics company Groupe F.
