Scott Peterson has filed a new appeal to reverse his 2004 conviction, claiming he has evidence on who was responsible for the murder of his wife, Laci Peterson.

His appeal for a new trial was junked last December by a judge who rejected his claim that one of the 12 jurors in the initial trial was biased.

A few weeks ago, Peterson filed a new petition for habeas corpus in a California appellate court, in which he laid out six claims that he and his family believe will acquit him.

Peterson's camp believed his wife was kidnapped and killed by a group of men she saw burglarizing a neighbor's home.

Janey Peterson, Peterson's sister-in-law, maintains a website and social media pages that detail his appeal process, Modesto Bee reported.

Janey said a person identifying herself as Melissa messaged her on Twitter on August 22, 2022, or more than a week after the conclusion of the evidentiary hearing in Peterson's juror misconduct claim.

Melissa told Janey she knew a man who confessed to the burglary and Laci's abduction and murder during a gathering a few months earlier.

Janey then contacted Pat Harris, who is one of Peterson's attorneys. Three people were interviewed by Harris and private investigator Jason DeWitt. These individuals were reportedly present when the man made the statements about Laci's murder.

One of them told the private investigator they heard the man make statements about the case. However, they do not want to be involved in the case.

Scott Peterson Juror Misconduct Claims

Last December, a California judge rejected a new trial for Scott Peterson. He alleged juror misconduct during his sentencing decades ago, saying that the juror lied about her history of abuse to get on the panel.

ABC News Go reported that Superior Court Judge Anne-Christine Massullo found that the juror, Richelle Nice, committed misconduct as Nice had provided false answers during the case's jury selection.

However, the judge believed that Nice did not commit enough misconduct to require a new trial as she was not biased against Peterson.

Massullo ruled Nice did not deliberately hide information about her nor misrepresent her financial situation just to be a part of the jury.

The judge noted that Juror No. 7, which was Nice was also known, did not seem vengeful toward Peterson in letters she later wrote him in prison.

Massullo added that Nice's responses were the result of "a combination of good faith misunderstanding of the questions and sloppiness in answering."

Scott Peterson Murder Case

In November 2004, Scott Peterson was convicted of first-degree murder for his wife's death and second-degree murder for the death of their unborn son Conner.

Peterson was first sentenced to death but was later overturned due to "significant errors" in jury selection. He will remain in jail to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Laci Peterson was eight months pregnant when she disappeared on Christmas Eve in 2002. Peterson had left that day to go fishing at the Berkeley Marina.

Peterson came under suspicion immediately. Detectives noted that he seemed far too calm for a man whose pregnant wife had suddenly disappeared.

A passerby found the bodies of Laci and the fetus of her son washed ashore in the San Francisco Bay near Richmond in April 2003. Their remains were badly decomposed from time in the water. Thus, the cause of death was never determined.

Peterson was arrested in La Jolla, California, on April 18, 2003 - the same day the two decomposed bodies were identified as Laci Peterson and Conner. He had already dyed his hair blond, filled his car with survival gear, and had $15,000 cash on hand.

Investigators discovered that Peterson was having an affair with massage therapist Amber Frey at the time of his wife's disappearance. Frey told investigators that Scott Peterson told her he was not married, and she admitted they had a romantic relationship.

Prosecutors argued that the affair was Peterson's motive to kill his wife, allowing him to be with Frey. However, Peterson's lawyers maintained that they could present new evidence that burglars were nearby their Modesto home before Laci Peterson's disappearance.
