Team USA's final roster for the 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup could be named on Thursday, USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo said.

In an interview with ESPN, Colangelo said that the original plan is to trim the 16-man roster to 13 or 12 players this weekend, but he said that the final cut could come as early as Thursday following their friendly match against Dominican Republic on Wednesday night.

"We've said we wanted to wait through the end of the week in New York before we made cutbacks, but that could still change," Colangelo said.

Colangelo said that they are considering naming the final roster by Thursday in order to give head coach Mike Krzyzewski the opportunity to have one-full practice with 12 players before their scheduled tune-up game against Puerto Rico on Friday at the Madison Square Garden.

The USA Basketball executive added, though, that they are still open to the idea of bringing 13 players to Spain and make the final cut several days before the deadline for the submission of the lineup on Aug. 29 -- a day before the highly anticipated tournament kicks off.

While Krzyzewski is remaining firm that they have no partial list of shoe-ins, most analysts are convinced that Anthony Davis, James Harden, Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Kenneth Faried and Derrick Rose are lock to make the team.

With Rose, Irving and Curry taking the point guard spots, Portland Trail Blazers All-Star Damian Lillard is in danger of being cut from the squad along with Toronto Raptors guard DeMar Derozan.

Chandler Parsons and Kyle Korver also saw limited playing time during their friendly against Brazil, while Andrew Drummond, Gordon Hayward and DeRozan were not used for the entire game.

Krzyzewski was quick to point out, though, that the substitution pattern on Saturday night's win against Brazil has nothing to do about who they are looking to cut from the current 16-man team.

"People read into everything," Krzyzewski said. "That's part of the world we live in. That's why we have shows because if they weren't talking about that, no one would be watching. First of all, you never play 16 guys in a game, so we have to take a look at certain things."
