Kanye West stopped his concert in Sydney, Australia to excitedly demand the crowd to stand up before the start of a new song. It isn't out of the norm for a performer to ask for the interaction of their audience during a concert. But for Kanye, things got a little awkward when he singled out a concertgoer who wouldn't stand up for him.

"I decided I can't do this song, I can't do the rest of the show until everybody stands up," West told the Qantas Credit Union Arena in Sydney. "Unless you got a handicap pass and you get special parking," he added.

This was when things went from awkward to serious after both a fan and a bouncer had to signal and confirm to "Yeezus" that the person still sitting was a fan in a wheelchair. The rapper had previously refused to start the song complaining, "this is the longest I've had to wait to do a song, it's unbelievable," because the one person in the crowd was still sitting.

Mr. West's form of apology? "If he's in a wheelchair, then it's fine."

The "wheelchair incident" didn't take long to receive a response from angered individuals who found Kanye's mistake to be offensive.

Scott Jordan Harris, a disabled journalist writing for Telegraph said:

"Kanye West gave so little thought to disabled people that he surprised to find two among an audience of thousands. When he did, he felt it was his right as an able-bodied person to determine whether those people met his personal standard for disability. This attitude comes from the belief that public spaces belong to the able-bodied and that disabled people can only ever trespass in them."

Kim Kardashian West chose to stand up for her husband by taking to her Instagram to blame the media for blowing the situation out of proportion. She captioned this under a video clip of Kanye's concert that night:

"What an amazing Australian tour! It's frustrating that something so awesome could be clouded by lies in the media. Kanye never asked anyone in a wheel chair to stand up & the audience videos show that. He asked for everyone to stand up & dance UNLESS they were in a wheel chair. #JustWantedEveryoneToHaveAFunNight #TheMediaTwistsThings"

Instagrammers had opinions of their own, commenting under Kim's video, "He just did the SAME thing in Brisbane...what a moron!!" and, "Oh okay. So then it's totally okay to demand everyone get up unless their disabled? At a concert they paid good money to see? Ok. Well, whatever Princess Kanye wants, right? #BothOfYouAreIdiots." However, other commentators were on Kim and Kanye's side writing, "I hate when the media tells lies gets u all like omg and when [half] of it is not true love you kimye," and, "We love you Kimye! Xo."

Do you think Kanye's demands were insensitive?
