Stephen Collins will not be prosecuted for child molestation, TMZ reports.

Earlier this month, TMZ obtained an audio recording of the "7th Heaven" actor confessing to molestation and exposing himself to three underage victims under the age of 14.

In the disturbing audio recording initially conducted by Collins' estranged wife, Faye Grant, we hear Collins confess to molesting an 11-year-old New York relative of his first wife, Marjorie Weinman.

"There was one moment of touching where her hand, I put her hand on my penis," Collins says in the recording.

When asked if it aroused him, he replies, "No, I mean, no. Partial, maybe I think."

Later in the recording, Collins confesses to molesting an LA girl -- who he later apologized to -- that lived in his neighborhood and another New York girl who was between the age of 12 and 13 at the time.

Despite his confession, TMZ is now reporting that the NYPD and LAPD have decided to close Collins' case due to the three decade time gap between the Collins' molestation and confession.

"Law enforcement sources in all 3 police departments tell TMZ ... the cases will go nowhere," a TMZ rep writes. "All 3 cases are decades old, and our sources say prosecution would be barred by the statute of limitations."

Although one of Collins' victim did come forward and spoke with New York detectives back in 2012, the NYPD still plans to dismiss the case since the victim's incident with Collins occurred in the 70s, says TMZ.

Collins' wife still plans to raise her husband's molestation issue in court during her and Collins' divorce trial next month, TMZ reports.

Grant is raising the issue to ensure that her assets will be protected in the event that another one of Collins' victims does eventually file suit.

Collins is also raising his molestation issue in court because he believes that Grant conducted the secret recording in attempt to extort money from him.

Since the release of the TMZ recording, Collins has been fired from his upcoming film, "Ted 2," and also resigned from his position on the Screen Actors Guild national board, CNN reports.

UPTV also announced its decision to stop showing re-runs of "7th Heaven" on its network.
