Detroit Pistons small forward Josh Smith and Atlanta Hawks power forward Paul Millsap might change uniforms before the 2014-15 NBA season trade deadline.

John Zitzler of Basketball Insiders reported that the Smith could be traded to the Sacramento Kings before the deadline if new Pistons coach and team president Stan Van Gundy prioritizes keeping Greg Monroe in Detroit.

"The most prevalent rumor surrounding Smith is a deal that would send him to Sacramento joining the Kings," Zitzler wrote. "This is all speculation, but the Smith-to-the-Kings deal is one that has been mentioned on more than occasion."

However, Van Gundy is expected to ask for valuable assets in return in any trade, contrary to previous reports suggesting that they would just trade the high-flying forward in order to get rid of his lucrative contract.

The 28-year-old forward, who averaged 16.4 points to go along with 6.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists last season, will earn $13.5 million per year until after the 2016-17 NBA season.

"Van Gundy has made it known that he views Smith as important piece going forward and if he were to trade to him it wouldn't be just to move his contract. The Pistons would expect significant value in return for Smith," Zitzler said.

Meanwhile, the Hawks could also be forced to trade Paul Millsap this season if they fail to convince him to sign a contract extension to extend his stay in Atlanta.

Millsap is playing in the final year of his two-year, $19 million contract he signed before last season. The 29-year-old forward is expected to draw several suitors when he hits free agency next summer, which means that the Hawks might just opt to trade him instead of losing him for nothing.

"Once Millsap becomes an unrestricted free agent next summer, the bidding war will really begin," Cody Taylor of Basketball Insiders wrote. "The Hawks have to decide whether they are all-in on Millsap prior to the trade deadline. If they sense that Millsap could command money they aren't willing to spend, then they could very well trade Millsap away."

Millsap, who is playing in his ninth season in the league, averaged 17.9 points and 8.5 rebounds last year. He scored 13 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five assists in their loss to the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday.
