Sarah Michelle Gellar, who amassed scores of fans with her lead role in the television series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," is returning to the realm of fantasy as a voice actor on the Disney XD series "Star Wars Rebels," reports CBS News.

Gellar hasn't said exactly what the role is, but she caused quite a buzz in the studio when she visited to lend her voice to the show.

"We're thrilled to have Sarah Michelle Gellar on board for season two. She is a true 'Star Wars Rebels' fan and her passion undoubtedly comes through in the voice recording sessions," Executive Director Dave Filoni told Yahoo! News.

As for the second season of the show, IGN interviewed Filoni, the executive producer of the show, to find out what's to come. He talked about Darth Maul's death and how people may think that he will be coming back, but it's not likely.

"There's a moment where [Kanan] thinks he's lost his main adversary in the Inquisitor and he's lost Ezra, he believes, so there he's kind of alone in all this chaos - the very symbol of a Jedi at that point for how things have gone for them," he said. "It was a dramatic moment and we have, I think, in some ways some better things in store for Season 2 that could play off of that moment."

Gellar will be working next to her husband, Freddie Prinze Jr., on "Star Wars Rebels."

The actress ribbed her husband a little last year during an interview at a charity event in West Hollywood to benefit LA Family Housing. Prinze Jr. had tweeted that he was "learning to walk again" following spinal surgery on Nov. 20.

"Oh my god, you mean Freddie that's like, learning how to walk again?! My poor husband couldn't make it. By the way, he was coming, he was in tears. He was like 'I promised Bill and Scout they're so good to me, I have to be there.' But he's just so tired," she told E! News facetiously.

The actor shared on Twitter the reason for the surgery, "Let's say I had some disc issues that have been resolved. Nuff said friends."

The married couple has worked on projects together previously. They were co-stars of "I Know What You Did Last Summer" and the Scooby-Doo films. They are parents to daughter Charlotte, 5, and son Rocky, 2.

"Star Wars Rebels" is an animated series that fills the gap between the events of "Episode III" and "Episode IV." Imperial forces rule over the inhabitants of a remote planet with an iron fist. A savvy crew aboard the starship Ghost challenges the Empire, facing a slew of colorful villains and adversaries.
