“Madam Secretary,” the Tea Leoni-starring drama about a CIA analyst who is promoted to United States Secretary of State, is approaching its 20th episode.

And despite last year’s rumors that Leoni, previously most recognized for playing the girl in trouble in “Bad Boys” and for being the real life ex-wife of self-confessed sex-addict David Duchovny, would be canned for diva-like behavior, the show has achieved what Variety has described as “a slightly simple-minded return to ‘The West Wing.’”

In the upcoming episode ,"The Necessary Art,” Elizabeth’s (Leoni) husband Henry (Tim Daly) is in Russia delivering a lecture on fundamentalism.

As reported in Spoiler's Guide, the Madam Secretary is forced into some tricky political navigation when a Russian nuclear submarine vanishes in American waters.

While all of this is happening daughter, Stevie (Wallis Currie-Wood) breaks up with her boyfriend.

Daly, who plays a hunky theology professor on the series, spoke to Collider about what brought him on board the show.

“What attracted me to it, beyond it being really intelligent, was that it was sadly something that would be unique on television. Anchoring this political show is this vital, dynamic, complex, thriving marriage," he said. "These people are passionately and fiercely committed to making it work out. So, I saw Henry as a guy who was confident and powerful enough to be able to say to the woman that he’s with, ‘Yeah, go for it, babe. Go be the Secretary of State.’ Yet, within their relationship, he is as powerful as she is. They are equal partners. I thought that was great, and not unrealistic.”

Daly also praised the novelty of his character, saying, “I’ve never seen a professor of religion on television before, and I thought that was fascinating. The creative tension with spirituality vs. practicality in the world of politics is a vital conversation.”

The new episode of "Madam Secretary" airs April 12 on CBS.
