Legendary songster Prince has recorded a tribute song for the people of Baltimore in the wake of the recent rioting there stemming from the police killing of a 25-year-old black man while in their custody.

According to Billboard, the outspoken singer is touting the recording as a "tribute to all of the people of the city of Baltimore."

A date for the release has not been established, but the song is almost certain to address the killing of Freddie Gray and "the socio/political issues around the nation following a spate of killings of young black men."

Gray died of a broken neck nearly three weeks ago after being thrown in the back of a police van handcuffed and shackled but not seat belted in. Authorities have since charged all six officers involved in Gray's arrest with a slew of charges ranging from second-degree murder to involuntary manslaughter to false imprisonment.

Billboard adds the song was recorded this week at Prince's Paisley Park headquarters. The rocker thus joins a growing contingent of artists that includes Beyoncé, The Game, Joey Bada$ and Future Islands in voicing their concerns about the happenings in Baltimore.

Meanwhile, Vibe reports Prince envisions himself introducing the song over Jay Z's new Tidal music streaming service.

Since announcing the launch of the service just weeks ago, Jay's new venture has received exclusive works from several top artists, including wife Beyoncé who released the track "Die With You," to mark their anniversary. Nicki Minaj also dropped a backstage all-access look of her upcoming "The Pinkprint Tour."

The Roc-A-Fellas record label founder recently took to social media to implore the masses to give TIDAL a chance as it strives to find its way in a competitive marketplace.
