Alicia Vikander is reportedly in talks to join the cast of "Assassin's Creed."

According to Deadline, the celebrated Swedish actress will join Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard in the video game-to-film adaptation of Assassin's Creed. The film is set to be directed by Justin Kurzel. The actress has been on the rise and it is now rumored that due to her busy schedule Vikander will likely drop out of the Tom Hanks production "The Circle."

The casting would be no surprise as Vikander showed up to the Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of "Macbeth," which is directed by Kurzel. The actress was seen talking to Cotillard and Fassbender during the premiere screening.

Vikander has been on the rise since 2012 when she appeared in "Anna Karenina" and "A Royal Affair." The actress recently starred in "The Fifth Estate," "Seventh Son" and "Son a Gun." She is currently starring in "Ex Machina," for which she has obtained rave reviews and has garnered awards buzz. The actress will be seen this year in the acclaimed period drama "Testament of Youth," "Tulip Fever," "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.," "Adam Jones" and "The Danish Girl."

"Macbeth" opened at the Cannes Film Festival, where it scored positive reviews. However, it was booed by the press and foreign press was not as thrilled. The film went home empty-handed and will be released by the Weinstein Company in time for awards season.

"Assassin's Creed" will be based on the famous video game by Ubisoft. The series is among the most acclaimed in contemporary video game franchises. The script for the film is reportedly finished and the movie is expected to go into production in the fall. The film is set for release in 2016. No plot details have been revealed but is widely expected that Fassbender will play the lead role.
