Although Nina Dobrev will not return to "The Vampire Diaries" this fall, there will still be a lot to look forward to in Season 7, including the introduction of the show's first same-sex couple.

During the Season 6 finale, fans said goodbye to Dobrev's character, Elena, who was put under a spell that will keep her in a coma-like state as long as Bonnie is alive. As a result, she will likely remain locked in a coffin for the next 60 to 70 years.

While Elena's absence is bound to have a devastating effect on Elena's longtime lover, Damon, and all of her friends in Mystic Falls, new spoilers reveal that the series may shake things up with three new characters.

According to TVLine, there is a possibility that viewers will meet an undercover lesbian vampire couple next season. The vampires, Nora and Mary Louise, are in their mid-20s and have kept their relationship a secret for over a century. Mary Louise appears to be the lovey-dovey type who constantly dotes on her girlfriend, which can make Nora feel a bit smothered. Nonetheless, the women are lethal and nothing to play with.

In addition, a 20-something-year-old vampire named Valerie may also be added to the mix. She relies on her dry sense of humor as a defense mechanism against her past life of pain and dismissal. However, she will meet a special someone in Mystic Falls who will then help her get in touch with her happy, free spirit side. In turn, she will do whatever it takes to keep him in her life.

"TVD" creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson also opened up about the upcoming season and Damon's future without Elena.

Because Elena will be M.I.A., "he now has more freedom to kind of be messy with his choices. I think you'll see a darker Damon with the sort of wisdom of his experience, but a freedom to act out as he may feel like he needs to," said Plec during the ATX Television Festival, according to MTV.

Season 7 of "The Vampire Diaries" is set to premiere on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8/7c on The CW.
