With the upcoming season getting ready to shoot, Grant Gustin has revealed that "The Flash" will be adding new characters to the series.

In a recent interview with TVLine, Grant Gustin said that the show will be expanding its cast significantly. He said, "There are a lot of new characters coming in, not just the ones that have been leaked online. And they all will challenge relationships, in good and bad ways."

Along with Gustin, the show will see Candice Patton, Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdez returning to the cast. Rick Cosnett, however, will not return as his character Eddie sacrificed himself in the Season 1 finale.

Of the new cast members and characters, it has already been revealed that the Flash will be getting a new love interest as Iris is not ready to be in a relationship with Barry Allen. The new character will be Wendy who is described as "spunky, fun, and funny" and who is also a science whiz. The series is currently casting the role, so it will be interesting to see who plays the role.

It was also revealed that the character of Joe West will be getting a new partner and some speculate that it will be Wendy. In the comic book, Wendy's real identity is Patty Spivot. Although nothing has been confirmed, if the show sticks to the original source material, expect this show to have a number of plot twists.

Other characters that are currently rumored include a mystery hero called "John Clark." There have already been leaked audition tapes that reveal that this hero may have some unusual power. There will also be a new villain which Gustin mentioned during the Saturn Awards. However, the identity has been kept under wraps.

"The Flash" Season 2 is set to premiere on Oct. 6 on The CW.
