World Boxing Council middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and former title holder Saul "Canelo" Alvarez could face each other again in a rematch after their proposed Nov. 21 showdown.

Details on the Cotto-Canelo fight are still being ironed out, as recent reports indicated that it is almost finalized with only the venue as a major consideration.

Recently, the Puerto Rican's adviser, Gaby Penagaricano, told ESPN Deportes that both camps are working on the terms and that "everything is on track." He even shared that they were already discussing the possible venue for the Nov. 21 match, including Mandalay Bay, where Oscar De La Hoya fought Tito Trinidad last time.

However, Penagaricano revealed that nothing is final yet.

"But there is still nothing definite. Ourselves, Golden Boy Promotions and Roc Nation Sports - we are focused on maximizing everything in this negotiation," Penagaricano said, as quoted by Boxing Scene.

Rematch Clause

Even the Mexican warrior's promoter, De La Hoya, who is also open to staging the fight at Mandalay Bay, revealed that the discussion on "rematch clause" is preventing the fight from being finalized.

"All we need is to negotiate one little point. Look Golden Boy's on board, Roc Nation (Sports) is on board, Canelo's on board, Cotto's on board, Vegas is on board, The only person we're waiting for is Gaby Penagaricano. The issue is in the details of a rematch clause." De La Hoya told Boxing Scene.

"I know Cotto wants the fight, I know he's already training, same for 'Canelo, he's already training, he's ready to do. We're waiting for an answer from Gaby," the promoter added.

Penagaricano Fires Back

Soon after De La Hoya issued these statements, Penagaricano responded via El Vocero, saying that the Boxing Hall of Famer's statements are "false." The adviser maintained that there are still some aspects of the negotiations that must be discussed.

Penagaricano was also upset because he wanted to do the negotiations privately.

"But to apply pressure through the press during the negotiations will have zero effect on Miguel Cotto and his team... The mere fact that Oscar went to the press and said what he said, I think it's the best evidence that his side feels cornered... We have never entered into negotiations through the press. Nor will I think about doing it now," Penagaricano told the outlet, as quoted by Boxing Scene.

How about Gennady Golovkin?

World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin is still the mandatory challenger for the WBC title.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman insisted in an interview with World Boxing News that Golovkin should be given a shot, and even stated that the Cotto-Canelo bout would not even materialize without the consent from the unbeaten knockout specialist.
