There are a lot of surprises in store for Season 11 of "Criminal Minds," including the departures of a regular cast member on the long running CBS series.

Series star Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays Spencer Reid on the show, revealed to Zap2It that fans will have to say goodbye to another team member in the new season. Gubler also revealed that he will be the one directing the exit episode.

"I am [directing]. There's a special episode," he says. "I almost don't want to give it away, but I might as well. It's the departure of one of the regular team members."

Earlier this year, executive producer Erica Messer confirmed that Jennifer Love Hewitt will not reprise her role as FBI undercover agent Kate Callahan next season in order to spend with her new baby. In addition, series star AJ Cook revealed that she, too, is pregnant during the Season 10 finale. As a result, her character JJ, will be taking maternity leave and won't be featured in the first couple of episodes of the new season.

Gubler went on to tease what viewers can expect from Reid in the upcoming season.

"Reid is back at it, catching scumbags and hanging with the team that he loves and helping solve crimes," said the actor, adding that veteran actress Aisha Tyler has been tapped for a reoccurring role on the show.

"We've got some new cast additions. Aisha Tyler is on the show. It's been great so far. We're definitely off to a good start. We're running fast," he said.

Gubler also said that he would like to see Reid evolve and develop better interpersonal skills in Season 11.

"That's the great thing about playing a character for so long is that there's always new territory. Trying to take him a little bit more -- I've always wanted him to show growth," Gubler explains. "I want to see him slowly become less socially awkward and more confident."

Season 11 of "Criminal Minds" will premiere on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
