David De Gea has openly spoken about the transfer talks he was involved in during the summer. The Manchester United goalkeeper said, in a preview clip posted on Twitter, that he has moved on from his failed transfer to Real Madrid during the summer.

The 24-year-old Spaniard thanked fans at Old Trafford for their boundless support. He explained that the whole fiasco taught him a lot about himself and made him realize the many nuances of the world of football. As a result, he vowed to improve his game even more.

"Football teaches you things. Tough moments make you mature and grow up. There are things that you learn in the world of football. You must keep working and try to improve every day in training," said De Gea via ESPN FC Asia.

He added, "I am a guy who can move on from bad things and difficult moments. There have been some tough moments, but now is the time to move on, and keep working even harder than ever."

It can be recalled that De Gea was one of United's rare bright spots of the 2014-25 Premiere League season. Van Gaal's squad suffered injuries and issues that pushed the Dutch manager to field in 37 different players last season, The Telegraph reported.

Even though De Gea performed consistently at Old Trafford, the star goalkeeper did not escape transfer talks linking him to La Liga and Real Madrid.

La Razon previously reported that De Gea might soon complete a deal with Los Blancos for £24.5 million or approximately $37.6 million before the summer window closes.

At first, United did not want to negotiate a deal with Real Madrid unless defender Sergio Ramos was also in the mix. At that time, De Gea was in his last year of contract for United and Van Gaal was cognizant of the fact that he had to move him during the summer transfer window, lest acquiring nothing in return in the event the goalkeeper signs elsewhere when his contract expires.

United was on the verge of conceding De Gea to Real Madrid. However, Rafael Benitez vehemently stated that Ramos won't be leaving the Bernabeu anytime soon, as per Sky Sports. And that was the end of that.

Van Gaal decided to rule out De Gea from team activities while the transfer saga was going. The goalkeeper was then reinstated as No. 1 immediately after the summer transfer window closed. The Spanish international has since inked a new four-year contract extension with United last month.

As for De Gea's recent statements, the full documentary will be aired on Canal Plus on Monday.
