There have been several incarnations of "Law & Order" over the past two decades, but now yet another may be landing in the Windy City.

According to Variety, "Law & Order" creator Dick Wolf has already established a new franchise on NBC with his "Chicago" procedural shows like "Chicago Med," "Chicago Fire" and "Chicago P.D." By adding "Chicago Law" to that series, he will essentially be tying in his popular "L&O" franchise with these others, using the same tactics as always to develop storylines.

Wolf's strategy for coming up with creative content for "Law & Order," as well as his other siries," has been simple: pull from the headlines.

Pulling content from current events, the creator and showrunners have been able to take real life issues and incorporate them into the various shows. The scripts shape real events into fictional plotlines with clever added twists, playing on viewer expectations and cultural trends.

There is good reason to believe that showrunners on "Chicago Law" will utilize this same strategy, as the fictional lawyers and detectives work the cases in familiar ways.

Although Wolf fell short of calling the new project a "Law & Order" spinoff based in Chicago, he did use some phrases that seemed really familiar, according to Deadline.

"We steal the headlines, not the body copy," Wolf told TCA reporters on Wednesday during the winter press tour. "Will there be examination of police shootings under a variety of circumstances? Absolutely."

Given that recent headlines that have come out of Chicago over the past few months often concern police shootings of black citizens, many wondered how Wolf and the new series would tackle the issue.

"We do not steer away from anything. But I am not a mouthpiece for the Chicago P.D. or any police department," Wolf said.
