The first Grand Slam event of the year is underway, and tennis fans will immediately get a glimpse of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in Day 1 of the 2016 Australian Open on Monday.

Djokovic, who is the favorite to win the title this year, will kick off his campaign against Hyeon Chung of Korea in the morning session at Rod Laver Arena.

The top-seeded Serb is coming off the best year of his career after winning three Grand Slam titles in 2015 -- Australian Open, Wimbledon and U.S. Open. The defending Australian Open champion almost swept all Grand Slam events, but he lost to Stan Wawrinka in the 2015 French Open final.

All eyes will be on the five-time Australian Open champion, as fans are eager to see if he can match his performance last year. When asked about duplicating last season's feat this year, Djokovic said that he is not thinking of future tournaments, and insisted that he is focused on his title defense in Melbourne.

"It's only the beginning of the season. It's too early to talk about what I can or can't do later in the season. I'm here to focus on Australian Open," Djokovic told the tournament's official website. "I think, as all the players taking part in this year's first Grand Slam, I would like to do the best as I can and fight for the trophy."

Meanwhile, Federer will continue his chase for his 18th Grand Slam title. The third-seeded Swiss will open his 2016 Australian Open campaign against Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia in the first match of the evening session at Rod Laver Arena.

Federer admitted that he is not familiar with his opponent but he insisted that he is focused on improving his game further, especially now that he is feeling healthy heading into his tournament debut.

"I don't know my opponent very well," Federer said. "I almost played him at Wimbledon, I remember. So we'll see how that goes. More focused on my own game right now. My health is good now, so that's crucial."
