Disney Channel confirmed that the "High School Musical 4' movie is happening and that the company is officially holding auditions for it.

"High School Musical 4" is a brand new installment and the fourth movie in one of Disney's highly popular franchises. The sing-and-dance film trilogy, which began a decade ago, launched the careers of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Monique Coleman, Corbin Bleu, Lucas Grabeel and more.

A nationwide casting has been announced over on Disney Channel's website. According to Entertainment Weekly, Disney Channel's Worldwide president Gary Marsh has hinted at the reboot of the franchise.

"High School Musical is part of Disney Channel's DNA. It embodies all that we stand for," he said. "As a way of continuing to embrace that heritage, we're excited to announce 'the start of something new' - as we launch a search for a new class of East High Wildcats to star in a fourth installment of the High School Musical franchise."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "High School Musical 4" will feature the continuing rivalry of students at East High (Wildcats) and West High (Knights). Additionally, Jeffrey Hornaday will be directing and choreographing the movie. The casting will be directed by Jason La Padura, Natalie Hart and Kendra Patterson. The movie will be written by Dan Berendsen and Peter Barsocchini and executively produced by Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush.

US Magazine reports that it is not known if Efron, Tisdale, Hudgens and others will return or make a cameo in the 4th film. The 3rd and last movie in the franchise "High School Musical 3: Senior Year," which premiered in 2008, marked the end of their going to East High.

The fourth movie news comes just a couple of weeks after the 10th year reunion of the original "High School Musical" cast. According to E Online, the group met again to make a special telecast which aired on Jan. 20 on the Disney Channel. However, Efron, who played the leading role of Troy Bolton was missing so his pre-taped part was reportedly edited in.

There were speculations that Efron did not go to the reunion taping so as to avoid Hudgens who he dated for four years before breaking up in 2010. However, International Business Times reports that the reason why Efron wasn't there was because of movie commitments and schedule conflicts as he was busy promoting his new movie "Dirty Grandpa."

There is no word for when "High School Musical 4" will be in theaters.
