Singer and actress Selena Gomez has been working on shedding her Disney image and her new film for Netflix, "The Fundamentals of Caregiving," is helping her do just that.

In the trailer for the film, Gomez's character can be heard cursing in ways that the actress has never been heard doing.

The film stars Paul Rudd as a foster parent who takes on the challenge of helping a teen with disabilities get more out of life by going on a road trip.

On their trip, they encounter Dot (Gomez), a runaway with a troubled past who is in need of some guidance herself. The role reveals a new side of Gomez, who usually plays the good girl in films.

The 23-year-old has spoken out about her struggle to get cast for more mature roles because of her popularity and her youthful-looking face.

"Being known in a different way. I grew up in it. My intention was always to be an actress and a singer. Unfortunately, it just kind of got clouded. I never really wanted to be on tabloids or anything like that," she told Variety.

Regardless of her youthful face, Gomez hasn't let that stop her from making cameos in R-rated films like Neighbors 2, performing at the Victoria's Secret fashion in a revealing outfit of her own or rocking a variety of leotards on stage.

Gomez is currently on tour to support her latest album "Revival." The album features some of the most mature content the former Disney starlet has put out musically.
