Arsenal was at home and only trailed Chelsea by two points. They were playing a Manchester United team that could be called mediocre at best. But despite these favorable circumstances, the Gunners continued to bury any hope that once glimmered on their season.

A win would have put the team right back in first place; not to mention that they would have gotten a huge moral boost from beating a team that had dominated them in the last 14 fixtures between the two sides. But the team looked nervous from the outset. Was it the four goals they conceded against Liverpool over the weekend that made them look a bit gun-shy? Or was it simply part of the plan to play for the one point against Manchester United rather than drop yet another important game?

Regardless of intentions, Arsenal blew two big points. The team walked away with one after a lethargic 0-0 draw against Manchester United, but there was definitely a sense that the punchless Gunners let a big opportunity go.

Many felt that the two games against Liverpool and Manchester United would define the team's season; and it looks like they will. Manchester City still has a game in hand and only trails by a deuce. Chelsea remains one point ahead and still hosts the Gunners at home in a few weeks.

The team that many thought Arsenal had left behind after the strong start to the season seems to be reasserting itself with a vengeance. And that could be particularly detrimental heading into next week's date with Bayern Munich. Which Arsenal team will show up?
