In California, police have freed a woman held captive for 10 years. According to CNN, the woman, who was 15 years old at the time of her kidnapping, disappeared 10 years agowith her then live-in boyf riend. The victim's mother reported her missing in August of 2004. Her boyfriend, Isidro Garcia, had started to sexually assault the victim in June of that year, according to police.

Garcia attacked the victim's mother, drugged the victim and then abducted her, reports CNN. He then took her to a house in Compton, California, where he gave her fake IDs and kept her hidden in the garage.

However, her torment did not end there. To keep her under his control, Garcia said her family was not looking for her anymore and that they would be deported if she tried to escape or contact them.

"Even with the opportunity to escape, after years of physical and mental abuse, the victim saw no way out of her situation and lived a life with Garcia under sustained physical and mental abuse," said police in a statement, according to the New York Daily News.

In 2007, Garcia forced the victim to marry him and in 2012 she gave birth to his child. Garcia moved the pair often to avoid detection and also found a job for the two as part of a night cleaning crew to keep her under his watch.

However, despite his threats, the victim found and contacted her sister via Facebook. The now 25-year-old was freed by police and Garcia, now 41, was arrested on Tuesday. He was charged with kidnapping for rape, lewd acts with a minor and false imprisonment. According to the Daily News, police have not released any more details or the victim's name.
