Juan Mata is not heading to Bayern Munich. According to numerous reports, the Spanish midfielder will head to Old Trafford to play for Manchester United.

According to The Telegraph, United will pay 37 million pounds for Mata's services in hopes of not only salvaging the team's season, but also helping the player revive his World Cup dreams. Mata's current situation with Chelsea has been a major source of frustration. Once seen as the club's most important player under Rafa Benitez, Mata has struggled to obtain playing time under new coach Jose Mourinho. This diminished playtime has placed Mata's chances of playing for Spain in Brazil in serious doubt. Mourinho has stated that he is open to letting Mata walk if the Spaniard wants to.

This would be terrific for Mata as he would undoubtedly be the first-choice attacking midfielder for a United side that has struggled to assert itself in the middle of the pitch. Manager David Moyes seemed intent on buying a Spanish midfielder this summer and went after the likes of Ander Herrera and Cesc Fabregas; he failed on both counts. In the end, Moyes wound up with Marouane Fellaini; the Belgian star has failed to impress.

Could Mata fit into United's system? Former United captain Gary Neville is not positive about the situation.

"Does he fit with what I would call the typical philosophy of Manchester United? I would say no," he said, according to Sky Sports. "The first question, I think, is where are you going to play? Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie are up top if they are fit so where are you going to play him? Are you going to play him off the left or off the right?

"What it could be is the start of something to lead to other things, but typically I wouldn't say he fits."
