MTV has just confirmed that Kanye West will perform at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

West and the VMAs have long been the perfect formula for controversy. In 2009, the rapper stormed the stage and infamously interrupted Taylor Swift's acceptance speech as the (then) minor accepted her award for Best Female Video. Kanye took the mic from the songstress and told everybody why Beyonce should have won the award and not Swiftie.

"Yo Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'll let you finish, but Beyoncé has one of the best videos of all time. One of the best videos of all time!" noted Rolling Stone.

After performing in 2010 and 2011 at the awards show, West passed up the VMAs in 2012, only to return this year to perform a song off his much awaited album "Yeezus."

Performing "Black Skinhead" at the awards, West will tie Madonna for the most numbers of performances at the VMAs, with seven. In celebration of this momentous event, MTV announced that it will be playing an hour-long block of only Kanye's music on both MTV Jams and MTV Hits from 4 to 5 p.m. ET/PT.

West joins Lady Gaga as the only artists confirmed to be performing at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The pop superstar will debut her first single "Applause" from her upcoming album ARTPOP. According to Rolling Stone, MTV will announce more performers and VMA presenters in the coming weeks.

The 2013 MTV Video Music Awards will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on Sunday, Aug. 25. It will also be aired on MTV live at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
