One of the biggest fast-food chains in the world, McDonald's, is offering $100,000 in scholarships to support Hispanic students, according to a published report in 3 News Las Vegas.

It is undeniable that there there is a spiking number of Hispanic students who are pursuing a degree in college. However, the chance of graduating a 4-year course is still lesser compared to most Americans.

In previous reports by Latin Post, one of the reasons why the rate of Hispanic and Latino graduates is still lesser compared to other Americans is because a large number of Hispanic students come from low-income families.

There are different scholarship organizations that are giving financial support to Latino and Hispanic college students in order for them to finish their degrees. However, some of these scholarships require applicants to have excellent academic performances and are only limited to some courses.

Recently, McDonald's announced that they are offering up to $100,000 in scholarship grants to Hispanic students to help them fund their college academic expenses. McDonald's, in the company of "HACER" National Scholarship, has been awarding scholarship grants to deserving applicants since 2008 and has since awarded nearly $5 million.

Like other scholarship grants offered in the country for Hispanic and Latino students, this scholarship grant also requires the applicants to have good academic achievement, community involvement, and financial need.

To apply in the HACER's National Scholarship, applicants must fit following criteria:

  •  A senior high school student
  • A legal resident in the United States
  • Must be 21 years old or younger
  • Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must be eligible to attend a two-year or four-year degree in college or university with a full-time course of study.
  • Willing to disclose other scholarship programs that the applicants have applied
  • Willing to be enrolled and attend classes in accredited institutions in an academic year after the selection. There is a need to verify the applicant's willingness because the scholarship fund is paid directly to the schools
  • Most of all, the applicants must have at least one parent who has a Hispanic heritage

The application period of the scholarship is only until Feb.5. Interested applicants must make sure to apply before the deadline or visit McDonald's Scholarship Grant website for more information.

This is a good way to help the Latinos and Hispanic living in the country to help them achieve their dreams despite the scarce resources that they are experiencing. Getting a scholarship and having financial supports from different organizations is a big help for the underrepresented.

Through this, it will also help boost the economy of the country because previous studies show and reports from Latin Post that immigrants specificaly Hispanics and Latinos will be the main force of the U.S. economy in the years to come.

However, despite this, there is also a call to help support the Latinos and Hispanics not only in education but also in technology literacy because most of the jobs today require an adept skill in technology.
