10 College scholarship programs that Latino students should look into in pursuing their college degree, according to a published article in Remezcla.

The number of Latino students who are pursuing their college degree has skyrocketed since 2000. An increase of 27 percent was significantly seen in 2015 from 22 percent in 2000. However, there still a problem when it comes to the graduation gap between Latinos and Americans. 

According to experts, the educational disparity between Latinos and Americans is due to their demographics. Latinos are statistically more likely coming from low-income families which means that this tends to be one of the factors why there are few Latinos who graduate in college.  

To help Latinos who want to pursue their degree in college, there is no need for reading numerous winning scholarship essays we have already listed 10 scholarship programs that they can apply: 

1. Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Scholarships 

The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers Scholarships believed that "Financial needs is the no.1 reason why Hispanic students cannot complete their bachelor's degree," The has been offering 150 scholarships that help Latino students pay their tuition in college. Their scholarship program is exclusively for students only who are pursuing an education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The scholarship application this year will start in April. 

2. Ascend Educational Fund

The Ascend Educational Fund accepts applicants regardless of their immigration status. This means that even the undocumented immigrants can apply in this scholarship program. This education fund is intended for first and second-degree immigrants who live in New York City and graduated from New York City High School and plans to pursue their college degree in public or private colleges and universities regardless of their ethnicity, national origin, and immigration status. Successful applicants will receive $2,500 to $20,000 for their educational needs. 

3. Anhelo Project Dream Scholarship Application

This is another scholarship that is geared to help undocumented immigrants. They are very explicit in their website that applicants do not need to have a DACA status to apply in their scholarship program. Meanwhile, the Anhelo Project Dream Scholarship Application is intended for students who are currently living and looking for support to pay their tuition in the state of Illinois. To successfully get the scholarship, applicants must demonstrate leadership skills, academic competitiveness, community involvement, and financial need.

4. McDonald's HACER® National Scholarship 

This scholarship is for applicants who have at least one parent of Latino descent. Applicants must demonstrate sufficient academic achievement, community involvement, and financial need. Along with this, there will be a phone interview or in-person to gauge the potential of the recipients. The deadline for the application is on Feb. 5, 2020.

5. The Randy Falco Scholarship 

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is working to help many Latinos achieve their dreams in conquering Hollywood just like other students from other races and ethnicity but are financially constraint. Through the help of the Randy Falco Scholarship, they help students coming from Latino descent who want to pursue their television career by awarding $10,000. There are no schedules for the application that are released yet, but it is expected to be in mid-March this year. 

6. Dr. Juan Andrade, Jr. Scholarship for Young Hispanic Leaders

This scholarship is intended for students who are from Latino descent who demonstrate significant leadership capabilities and have the desire to serve effectively the community. The group has awarded $1.3 million funds in the Latino community. Moreover, there is no need for an applicant to be a U.S. citizen to apply. The application is expected to be in November 2020.

7. United Health Foundation National Association of Hispanic Nurses  

Applicants of this scholarship program must be enrolled in accredited LVN or LPN, associate, diploma, baccalaureate, and graduate nursing program or have been a member of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses for at least six months. Moreover, the recipient of this scholarship program is selected based on their need, course of study, and supporting application materials. Take note that the scholarship application starts from March 1 to April 1.

8. The Haz La U Program 

The scholarship program was created by Colgate-Palmolive products company to help Hispanic students in college by providing financial assistance. The scholarship grant is categorized into three categories such as Gold, Silver, and Bronze. One national category of scholarship worth $15,000. To qualify in this scholarship grant, the applicant must possess academic excellence, dedication to community service, and dedication of leadership in the community. The application will be in September 2020.

9. Florida Fund For Minority Teachers 

This is intended for minority students who live in the state of Florida and are planning to pursue their education in teaching. Applicants must have at least a GPA of 2.5, attended the annual symposium of Florida Fund for Minority Teachers. Most importantly, they must be willing to teach in the number of years equivalent to the number of years that the scholarship was received. The application period for the school year 2021-2022 will start at the end of this year.

10. Hispanic Scholarship Fund

The mission statement of the group is to "provide scholarships and support services to as many exceptional Hispanic American students as possible." This is the most all-encompassing scholarship program among the list. The award funds to all majors and graduate fields. The scholarship grant ranges from $500 to $5,000 and is awarded on a merit-based or competitive basis.
