Basketball fans and gamers are gearing up for some international competition.

2K Sports and the Turkish Airlines Euroleague signed an exclusive partnership earlier this summer, which will add 14 European teams to the 2K Sports series. NBA 2K14, which will be released Oct. 2, will be the first video game to feature teams from the Euroleague.

"We're absolutely delighted to be able to welcome top Euroleague teams into the NBA 2K series," said Jason Argent, senior vice president of sports operations for 2K Sports.  "European basketball has an incredibly passionate following, and we're all excited to give fans the opportunity to take on Europe's best in NBA 2K14."

Adding international teams to the game is a new idea but is almost certainly going to globalize the 2K Sports brand even further by catering and expanding to the international market. The 14 teams will be representing 8 European countries. NBA 2K14 will be released on Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Playstation 4, and Xbox One. It will be the first video game of the series to be released on Playstation 4 and Xbox One, neither of which has been released yet.

2KSports will seek to address gameplay concerns, and according to a tweet by 2KSport's Twitter account, the new game will introduce the ability to block dunks. This was an important complaint following the release of NBA 2K13 a year ago.

LeBron James is the cover athlete for this year's game, and those who preorder the game will receive the "King James Bonus Pack." According to 2Ksports.com, the pack includes four extra features, including extra content for the new "Path to Greatness" mode.

The game is currently available for pre-order at most major retailers such as Best Buy, Wal-Mart, GameStop, and Amazon.
