The World Health Organization (WHO) has released a warning saying the COVID-19 pandemic is spreading fast as confirmed cases hit 300,000 in just four days.

Health authorities first reported its 100,000 cases 67 days after Chinese health officials confirmed its existence. It took the virus 11 days to reach 200,000 cases.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus believes it is still possible to change the coronavirus' trajectory.

He urged countries to observe rigorous testing and contact-tracing in a bid to slow the spread, and eventually flatten the curve, of COVID-19.

The World Health Organization also partnered with the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) in a campaign featuring footballers to promote proper coronavirus preventive measures to "kick out the virus."

Dr. Ghebreyesus also emphasized the importance of staying at home, social distancing, and other isolating measures in curbing the spread of the virus.

He also said 'defensive measures' are not enough to stop the virus. Dr. Tedros said health officials should practice aggressive tactics including testing, isolating and caring for all suspected and confirmed cases. Authorities, he continued, must also chase and quarantine those who have come into close contact with COVID-19 patients.

He also addressed reports of health workers contracting the virus due to a shortage of protective medical equipment. Dr. Tedros assured WHO is working with its partners to prioritize the production of protective equipment.

Dr. Ghebreyesus said he would call for the support from leaders of the G20 group of nations to boost the production of the medical equipment as well as overseeing the equity of distribution on the basis of need.

The US coronavirus confirmed cases jumped to 46,371 with 560 deaths on Tuesday. The country now ranks third for the most number of confirmed cases in the world.

China still has the most cases with 81, 545. Italy ranks second with 63,927.

The state of New York has the highest number of COVID-19 cases amongst all the US states. New York has reported 23,230 cases as of Tuesday. Meanwhile, West Virginia has the least number of cases at 20.

Medical professionals around the globe have recently reported a pattern they have observed in most coronavirus patients.

Doctors said they struggle to diagnose whether patients are suffering from flu or the virus at the beginning of the manifestation as both illnesses have similar symptoms. Patients are most often endorsed for close monitoring when they have reached a critical stage, making recovery very difficult.

Other patients were reported to have seemingly recovered until heir immune system degenerates and they suffer worse symptoms.

There is currently no proven cure or vaccine for the virus. Research groups and pharmaceuticals have been hard at work in finding testing drugs that have seen promising results.

Health experts continue to urge the public to observe proper hygiene and physical distancing measures amid the rising cases of coronavirus since its first confirmed existence three months ago.
