A man suspected of stealing a vehicle with an infant inside, specifically in the backseat, on the Northwest Side was arrested.

According to the police officers, a woman left her baby, two months old, inside her running car's backseat and, at around 12:45 a.m., went inside a convenience store on Glen Ridge Drive and Evers Road.

The police report mentioned that one of the two men who were standing outside the store jumped into the woman's vehicle and drove off with the two-month-old inside.

Identified as Jonathan Rivas Arias, 36years old, the suspect, the investigating officers said, "Escaped northbound on Glen Ridge."

The Vehicle's Discovery

One hour after the incident, the officers said they received a tip about the vehicle found "behind Lindy's on Fredericksburg Road." Investigators added they believed the suspect himself, was the one who gave them the tip.

About an hour later, police received a tip that the vehicle was behind Lindy's on Fredericksburg Road. Officers said they believe the tip came from Rivas-Arias himself.

The police found the baby asleep in the vehicle's backseat. Nevertheless, Rivas-Arias had escaped the scene of the incident when the officers arrived.

Eventually, the mother got reunited with her infant and the suspect was arrested later on. Specifically, he was apprehended, as based on the Bexar County Records, "in the 7600 block of Callaghan Road."

Rivas-Arias, based on the police report, is charged with theft of a vehicle and kidnapping. Meanwhile, the investigation on the occurrence is still ongoing.

Reunited

It did not take long before the mother got reunited with her baby. As earlier mentioned, police received a call a few minutes before 1 a.m. The said call was about the theft of a vehicle with a baby inside, on the Northwest Side.

Then the responding officers arrived at the exact venue of the incident, specifically at "Circle K gas station on 5439 Evers Road."

Relatively, a panicky mother told the officers "she left her baby" inside her running vehicle while she rushed into the convenience store. Then, when she got back, she found both her car and her baby missing.

Immediately, the officers leaped into action, from which dozens of officers, along with their "Blue Eagle helicopter" to look for the vehicle and the baby they assumed, were still in the Medical Center area.

Following the incident, police said 911 received a call tip, reportedly, from an anonymous caller, informing them about the vehicle spotted allegedly abandoned with a baby inside.

True enough, the two-month-old infant was found inside the vehicle, exactly where the anonymous caller said it was abandoned. Fortunately, the baby was found safe while sleeping in the backseat of the car.

Not long after, the overwhelmed mother was taken to the scene where she eventually got reunited with her baby.

When the vehicle and baby were found, no suspect was arrested yet at that time. However, the authorities continued to search both from air and ground, and eventually found the person responsible for the crime.
