The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warned for a possible second wave and more lockdowns in the U.S. as the number of COVID-19 cases has reached to more than five million worldwide, according to the recently published article.

Updates on the Number of COVID-19 Cases in the World and the United States

As of today, there are more than 5.1 million COVID-19 cases around the world with a death toll of more than 334,000 while more than 2 million have recovered from the new coronavirus, according to the worldometers.

Of these cases, the United States still leads the world with the highest infections and death toll. As of today, the U.S. has recorded more than 1.6 million COVID-19 cases and a death toll of more than 96,000 while more than 380,000 have recovered from the virus.

This means that the United States has accounted for around 31 percent of the total COVID-19 cases in the world. Moreover, in some states on the country, Latinos and Hispanics are hardly hit by the virus and most of them were not treated in the hospitals due to their immigration status.

What's Next for the United States?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Robert Redfield issued a warning that as the number of cases has reached to more than five million worldwide, a possible second wave of infections and possible more lockdowns will happen in the United States.

If this will happen, this means that there will be more unemployment, healthcare services will be overwhelmed, more families will be negatively impacted, and the country will experience a more problematic health and economic issues.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Labor has reported that another 2.4 million people filed initial unemployment claims. In a published article, the total number of persons who filed for unemployment in the U.S. is more than 25 million.

These Are the Things that Everyone Should Know

As the state slowly reopens its economy, there is a higher chance of contagion because more people will be exposed to asymptomatic persons but are already positive for the virus. There are instances where an asymptomatic is not diagnosed in the hospital according to the previous reports because they were turned away by the doctors and hospitals or due to their immigration status.

The CDC Director warned that the country must be overprepared for the possible second wave of infections and lockdowns. This is to make sure that the government can still control the worst that is yet to come because for as long as there is no vaccine, the virus will continue to spread.

Now, even if the virus will be available on the market, the next question is until when people around the globe will all be vaccinated to get immunity against the infectious and deadly new coronavirus, and will the vaccine be given for free or it will be shouldered by the citizens.

How to Control the Second Wave of COVID-19?

CDC said that the second the occurrence of COVID-19 second wave cannot be controlled, but its devastation or its impacts can somehow be toned down. CDC Director said that during the first wave, only if people started to observe stringent social distancing before the declaration of the stay-at-home, around 960,000 infections and 54,000 deaths were prevented.
