A 57-year-old man has been arrested and charged with keeping a Louisiana woman captive for four days in a closet. The suspect was reported of bringing the victim out of the closet to beat and rape her repeatedly.

The suspect, identified as Darryl Vinson, has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree rape, and aggravated kidnapping. He was also charged with false imprisonment while armed with a weapon and possession of stolen property for the attack at a home in Gretna, according to the police.

The 48-year-old victim was reportedly in a stable condition as of Monday, a Crime Online report noted. Her injuries were a brain bleed, broken ribs, black eyes, and facial swelling. Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson added that the victim also had cuts and bruises over most of her body.

"I can only imagine, every time you hear that closet door getting ready to open, the fear she was in, not knowing what was next. It was a very brutal and sadistic event," Lawson said in the report.

The suspect was said to have repeatedly beat the Louisiana woman since Jan. 25. And over the next four days, he repeatedly forced her to have sex with him, which inflicted significant injuries.

Lawson said that what the victim went through over this period was unbelievable. However, despite being trapped for four days, there were no missing person reports filed on her behalf, according to a Daily Mail report.

Lawson added that Darryl Vinson and the victim had previously dated. However, investigators have yet to determine what caused the alleged assault.

Darryl Vinson's Victim Way to Freedom

On Friday, the suspect took the victim to the store with him, wherein a witness saw the suspect hit the Louisiana woman. The witness then contacted the authorities, who saved and freed the victim on the same day.

According to a New York Daily report, Vinson was arrested on outstanding attachments after the victim told police her traumatic experience with Vinson when she was brought to a hospital for treatment.

Lawson credited the passerby who called the police and said the witness had saved the woman's life. He noted that the case might be escalated to homicide as they investigate what happened.

Darryl Vinson was being held without bail at Gretna's Jefferson Parish Correctional Center.

Other Women Held Captive

This was one of the many cases where a woman was held captive and sexually assaulted and physically abused.

In a West Salem home in 2015, a woman was held captive for 44 days. She recounted details of being abused, which included being burned by a torch lighter, beaten with a closet rod, and sprayed with bleach, during the trial of the man accused of kidnapping and raping her.

Police entered the home on Oct. 25, 2015 to rescue her. She begged the police to take her to jail, according to a WTSP report.
