Father Mourns California Kid's Death

The nine-year-old boy victim was identified by the authorities as Matthew Farias. His father, Rafael Farias, noted that he will never comprehend why the gunman has aimed at a child. Farias used his body to shield his mother, who was also seriously injured in the shootout.

"My angel, he saved his mom from dying," Farias said, adding that the child took the bullets for his mother.

Farias' mother, Blanca Tamayo, is an employee of the establishment Unified Homes which, according to the report, was targeted by the suspect.

Matthew Farias was described by his father to be joyful and a leader of sports in their classroom. In a Facebook post, Farias posted a video of his son during his ninth birthday, which according to the father, happened a few months ago. Matthew Farias was also described as "favorite" by his teachers in Hoover Elementary School.

"My heart is heavy as I try to grasp and accept what has happened," said Thalia Tovar, the daughter of Luis Tovar, who was the owner of the business that was targeted in the shooting. Thalia Tovar also asked for prayers for Blanca Tamayo, who is still in critical condition due to her injuries.

The officials said that the attack in Unified Homes seemed to be isolated, according to an ABC News report. Moreover, the suspect knew and had business or personal relationships with all of the victims.

Orange County Shooting

The authorities identified the suspect as Aminadab Gaxiola Gonzales. Gonzales is married to a long-time employee from the company. However, it is not clear where his wife, Aleyda Mendoza, was during the shooting.

The suspect was shot in the head and his hand during the incident. At present, he remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

The suspect was reported to open fire at the Orange County police officers, leaving the authorities with no choice but to fire back. The investigators seized a semi-automatic weapon at the scene and a backpack with pepper spray, handcuffs, and ammunition. The authorities believed that the said items belonged to the suspect.

"The taking of the life of another human being is the most serious of crimes," said Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer in a statement. Gaxiola was charged with four counts of murder and three counts of attempted. The District Attorney's office of Orange County also noted that the suspect is eligible for the death penalty.
