Selena was a talented performer.

Her washing machine dance move is one that Latinos still remember, but for fans, seeing Selena perform as a hologram -- as Michael Jackson and Tupac have done before her -- is not going to happen.

Selena's brother, A.B. Quintanilla, was captivated by hologram Michael Jackson at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards. He wanted to do something similar to that to honor his late sister. The family has never spoken about a hologram for Selena officially, but the idea has been floating around since 2011, notes El Universal.

Selena's father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., said creating a hologram was more difficult than they expected.

"The prices are ridiculous, and there's a lot of equipment required ... only to show one song through hologram," he said.

The family also doesn't have the appropriate pictures necessary to create the hologram. The full-bodied pictures are too far away or just close-ups of her face. This is something the family discovered in 2013 when they met with AV Concepts, a company that specializes in holograms based in San Diego. They felt disappointed.

"After the meeting, when we returned to the bus, we all agreed that it wasn't enough for the fans," said A.B. "She looked like a ghost. The image was not well defined."

This ghost effect is the only thing that is standing in the way of the hologram being realized, but some people have tried to offer solutions, namely having Jennifer Lopez reprising the role that made her a household name.

"Some people say, 'Well, use the body of Jennifer Lopez and Selena's head," said A.B. "But that wouldn't make sense. If you love Selena, why would you want to see J.Lo's body with Selena's head. It would be like Frankenstein's monster."
