Missing Florida mom Cassie Carli's body was discovered in a shallow grave in Alabama on Saturday.

Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said that the body was identified by the detectives based on a tattoo, adding that it was discovered in a barn in Alabama, according to Fox 13 News report.

Carli was last seen on Sunday evening while meeting her ex-boyfriend Marcus Spanevelo, who is her daughter's father.

The two had met in the parking lot of a beachside restaurant not far from her home in Navarre, Florida.

Investigators later recovered Carli's vehicle, with her purse inside. They also confirmed that Carli's four-year-old daughter was safe.

Johnson said that Carli's family was crushed when they learned that her body had been located. He added that they "hated" that the Florida mom had passed away.

However, the sheriff also said that it is good "to get closure for the family."

Cassie Carli's Ex-Boyfriend During the Investigation

Spanevelo was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence, as well as giving false information in a missing person investigation.

Johnson noted that Spanevelo has been "totally uncooperative" during the whole investigation of the case, according to a Crime Online News report.

Johnson added that since authorities have been dealing with Carli's ex-boyfriend, Spanevelo has been "acting like a dirtbag," noting that he does not see that changing.

The sheriff said that information gathered in the course of their investigation has caused them to go to the property in Alabama, where they served a search warrant on Saturday evening.

Johnson said that Spanevelo has a connection with the property. However, he declined to comment to say what that was.

The sheriff noted that the information did not come from Spanevelo. He added that all Spanevelo said was "lawyer."

Both Spanevelo and their daughter Saylor were found the next day in Birmingham, Alabama. The four-year-old was returned to her mother's family, according to a WKRG News report.

Carli's family said that the missing mother was concerned about Spanevelo as they were working through custody problems.

Her brother, Anthony Carli, said that Cassie has been telling him for the last two years that Spanevelo has been threatening his sister.

Anthony added that his sister told him that if anything happens to her, "it's him."

Deputies noted that an autopsy is scheduled to take place on Monday in Huntsville, Alabama where Carli's cause of death will be determined.

The State Attorney's Office noted that additional charges will be filed against Spanevelo, pending autopsy results.

Johnson noted that once the autopsy is done and the charges were filed, people will understand.

The sheriff said that he thinks Spanevelo will be spending the rest of his life in prison or "he's going to get the needle."

Johnson said that hopefully, Spanevelo will get the needle.

Spanevelo had not been officially identified by investigators before his arrest as he had not been charged with a crime or named a person of interest.
