Dwayne Haskins' parents did not attend his funeral services Friday. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback died earlier this month after being struck by a vehicle on a Florida highway.

Haskins' parents, Dwayne Sr. and Tamara Haskins, told USA Today they would not be attending their son's funeral as they have never met Haskins' wife, Kalabrya Haskins. They said they felt that meeting her for the first time at their son's funeral would be the wrong time, Fox News reported.

In a statement last week, Kalabrya announced that funeral services for the former Washington Commanders quarterback would be held at the Allegheny Center Alliance Church in Pittsburgh Friday.

But Haskins' parents said they would hold two funeral services for their son. They told WUSA9 that one would be held on Saturday in New Brunswick, New Jersey, where Haskins was born and raised, and one on Sunday in Potomac, Maryland, where he later grew up.

Haskins' parents noted that they "have had such an overwhelming outpouring of love" for their son since the news about their loss came out.

"He was touched by so many people on his journey to being a standout athlete, and we are grateful to all of them. This pain is unimaginable, and we appreciate everyone who shares in our heartbreak," Haskins' parents told the outlet.

Dwayne Haskins Death

Dwayne Haskins died after being hit by a dump truck while walking on a South Florida highway on April 9. Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman Lt. Indiana Miranda said Haskins was pronounced dead at the scene, Lincoln Journal Star reported.

Haskins was in South Florida that week with several teammates, including fellow quarterback Mitch Trubisky, running back Najee Harris, and tight end pat Freiermuth.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin released a statement in light of the Steelers quarterback's death, saying he was devastated and at a loss for words with the passing of Haskins.

Tomlin described Haskins as a great teammate but "even more so a tremendous friend to so many." Ohio State posted a photo of Haskins on its Twitter feed, with a caption saying, "Leader. Legend. Forever a Buckeye."

Dwayne Haskins' Funeral Service

Dwayne Haskins' wife broke down in tears at his funeral Friday as the casket was exiting the church, Marca reported. Kalabrya also released a dove to honor the life of her husband at the funeral service.

Haskins' family, friends, teammates, and coaches gathered at the religious ceremony so they could pay their respects accordingly.

Among those who attended were former Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, former linebacker for Ohio State and the Steelers Ryan Shazier, Pittsburgh Steelers owner Art Rooney II, Steelers offensive coordinator Matt Canada, Cam Heyward, Ryan Day, among others.

Meyer recruited Haskins to play for the Buckeyes. According to Yahoo Sports, Haskins played at Ohio State from 2017 to 2018 and was a first-round pick by Washington in 2019. He played two seasons in Washington before joining the Pittsburgh Steelers for the 2021 season.

In a statement that was released a few days after the accident, Kalabrya expressed her gratitude to those who supported their family during their time of loss.

She noted that her husband was more than a great football player, adding that Dwayne Haskins had "the smile of a rainbow that touched the diversity of so many."

"He will forever rest and remain in our hearts til the end of time. His eternal love will always reside with us, Ohio State, Washington Commanders and Steelers Nation for eternity!" Kalabrya said.
