Houston Shooting: 2 Dead, 3 Injured in Harris County Flea Market

One of the shootings occurred at a crowded flea market in Harris County, north of Houston. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told KHOU 11 that the shooting in the area near 8720 Airline Drive happened at around 1 p.m.

In a tweet, Gonzalez confirmed that at least two people were dead.

The sheriff's office also confirmed that at least three people were brought to hospitals and were in critical condition.

Authorities did not identify the deceased and the victims, who were in critical condition. However, the five victims were reportedly in their early to mid-twenties and likely knew each other.

Investigators believe that all five victims were involved in an altercation that led to the shooting. Gonzalez said no bystanders were injured. The Harris County Sheriff's Office estimated that there were thousands of people in the flea market when the shooting broke out.

A spokesperson at the sheriff's office said the incident at the flea market was tragic, adding that there were a lot of people around the Airline Drive that only tried to come out and enjoy.

"It's very concerning. We're always concerned with the safety of our citizens. But we'll continue to do our jobs, and we'll continue to protect our citizens," the spokesperson noted.

Authorities said at least two people believed to be involved in the shooting were detained, ABC News reported. According to Gonzales, two pistols were found at the scene.

Officials noted that surveillance footage is available, but they don't have a video that shows the entire story. Witnesses of the shooting were also limited as people scattered when authorities arrived at the scene.
