A Texas gunman killed two people and injured four others before he turned the gun on himself to commit suicide, according to Haltom City police.

People reported that the incident occurred on July 2 at around 6:45 p.m. when officers were dispatched to reports of a shooting in a Haltom City neighborhood.

Rick Alexander of Haltom City police said the Texas gunman fatally shot one man and one woman before the police arrived at the scene.

The victims were identified as 33-year-old Collin Davis and 32-year-old Amber Tsai. Aside from the two, the shooter also shot at and wounded an elderly neighbor, who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and three police officers.

Chief of Police Cody Phillips said the officers who responded to the scene were immediately met with gunfire as they approached the house. He identified the injured officers as Cpl. Zach Tabler, and officers Tim Barton and Jose Avila.

Phillips said Tabler sustained gunshot wounds to the leg, arm, and hand. He was transferred to a local hospital and underwent surgery.

Barton had gunshot wounds to the leg, while Aviles had been shot on both legs and was still awaiting surgery as of Saturday.

Texas Gunman Commits Suicide

Police said the Texas gunman fled the house through the back door on foot, and a manhunt was launched. Neighbors were advised to stay indoors while he was still at large.

Authorities identified the gunman as 28-year-old Edward Freyman, who later committed suicide by shooting himself in the same neighborhood where he fatally shot Amber Tsai and Collin Davis.

Alexander said the gunman was found with an apparently self-inflicted wound to the head, a "military-style rifle" and a handgun. Alexander noted that Tsai was found dead inside the house while Davis was found dead outside.

According to NPR, the elderly victim was the one who called 911. Phillips said it was an "ambush situation," adding that it could have been worse if officers were not prepared for the situation.

The police chief noted that the Texas gunman knew Tsai and Davis. However, their relationships were not immediately clear.

Neighbors handed out blue ribbons on Monday that quickly went up to tree trunks along the quiet street of tree-lined ranch-style homes.

One neighbor, who lives directly across the street from Tsai, said the victim was a "sweet young person," as reported by NBC DFW News. Friends took to social media to remember Tsai, sharing posts on both Facebook and a GoFundMe page.

Texas Gunman Served in U.S. Army and Texas National Guard

Amber Tsai's sister said the victims were great friends, Star-Telegram reported. As shown by property records, Tsai bought the home on Diamond Oaks Drive in Haltom City in December 2020.

Ahe started working as a senior admissions adviser for ThriveDX, a cybersecurity and digital skills trade school based in Miami, Florida, a month before she moved.

Officials confirmed that the gunman served in U.S. Army and Texas National Guard from 2014 to 2021. Court records showed that Edward Freyman does not appear to have a criminal record in Tarrant County.

Freyman was enlisted as an infantryman in the U.S. Army from October 2014 to October 2019. While in service, he was awarded medals and commendations for Army achievement and professional development as a non-commissioned officer and for good conduct.

After he left the Army in October 2019, Freyman reportedly joined the Texas Army National Guard and served as a sergeant infantryman until March 2021.

The state's elite investigative agency, Texas Ranger, has taken over the investigation. Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the shooting.
