Former President Donald Trump on Wednesday expressed his intention to file a lawsuit against CNN and other media outlets for defamation.

According to Forbes, the involved media outlets reported Trump to be wrong for suggesting that there was widespread fraud during the 2020 election.

Trump has filed numerous lawsuits concerning his false claims of election fraud, which he repeatedly lost. The former president released a 282-page letter that his attorney, Jim Trusty, sent last week to CNN CEO Christ Licht, demanding the network to take down the "false" and "defamatory publications."

Trump and his legal team also wanted the media outlet to issue retraction statements. Trusty said in the letter that CNN rushed to brand the former president a "liar" for his unsupported and unproven voter fraud allegations.

Trusty further noted that the media outlet has "consistently fed a narrative that denounced" Trump's legitimacy and competency.

The letter also claimed that "CNN treated Trump worse" than other public figures found to be "dishonest." The letter cited as an example actor Jussie Smollett, who falsely claimed he was the victim of a hate crime.

In a statement released by his Save America PAC on Wednesday, the former president said he will also be taking legal action against other media outlets that "defrauded the public" about the "overwhelming evidence of fraud."

Donald Trump to Sue CNN

Donald Trump's lawyer wrote in the letter that failure to publish any retraction, correction, or apology will result in the filing of a lawsuit and damages being sought against CNN, according to New York Post.

Trusty said Trump harbored a subjective belief that he was unfairly deprived of a second term in office.

"This is particularly valid in the context of an incumbent president receiving over 74 million votes, a record number for any Republican candidate in history," the lawyer noted.

The former president has repeatedly claimed that the 2020 election was stolen or "rigged" against him. Trusty estimated that CNN has aired "defamatory comments" about Trump roughly 7,700 times.

According to reports, many of the CNN articles that Trusty highlighted in the letter were labeled "opinion." Trump's lawyer called on the outlet to "immediately cease and desist" its use of "Big Lie" when reporting Trump's subjective belief on the 2020 election.

Trusty said the letter is for all journalists, correspondents, editors, and directors to preserve "any and all evidence" related to the accusations mentioned regarding the former president.

Donald Trump Lawsuits

In 2021, Donald Trump has sued The New York Times, including David Barstow, Susanne Craig, and Russ Buettner, and the source that helped them obtain the documents for their report.

Their 2018 series of reporting focused on the former president's finances, showing evidence refuting claims that Trump was a self-made billionaire. It also showed a history of tax schemes and even "outright fraud," Forbes reported.

Trump also filed a lawsuit against CNN, which a federal judge tossed in 2020. The lawsuit claimed that the network was biased against Trump and was wrong to publish an opinion piece that suggested that the former president might have asked for Russia's help to influence the 2020 election.

Last month, CNN's new CEO, Chris Licht, reportedly told its staff they should tamp down on referring to Donald Trump's baseless claims about a "stolen" 2020 election as "the Big Lie" amid complaints that the network has been biased toward the political left in its coverage.
