California Drug Bust: What is SENTRI?

The Secure Electronic Network for Travelers Rapid Inspection (SENTRI) is a program on the southwest land border that allows expedited inspections for pre-approved low-risk travelers in the U.S.

CBP noted that people enrolled in the program are entitled to use "express lanes" to enter the United States. The said program has around 10 million participants with another 3.5 million applications expected in the fiscal year 2022.

People under this program are entitled to decreased wait time when crossing the U.S-Mexico Border.

"CBP would like to remind the public that the ability to use these designated SENTRI lanes is a privilege," CBP acting director of Field Operation in San Diego, Anne Maricich, said. The official added that their officers will continue to stay vigilant and find those who want to attempt illegal activity.

Other California Drug Busts

Last week, CBP revealed that California border officials in Calexico also seized a record number of drugs in their port of entry.

In the course of five days, officials from the said port of entry confiscated nearly 500 packages of methamphetamine and fentanyl. Marijuana was also confiscated in the said port of entry.

Officers reportedly used an imaging machine and canine screening to locate the drugs.

The said drugs were confiscated in the course of five days and the total estimated value is $8.25 million.
