A California dermatologist was arrested after being accused of poisoning her husband. Yue Yu's husband went to the police in the city of Irvine in Orange County on Thursday to report that he was being poisoned by his wife of 10 years.

According to CBS News, the California woman's husband said he grew ill over the course of a month. Police said the man also brought video evidence, which he gave to authorities.

The husband reportedly had "significant internal injuries," but he is expected to recover. Investigators interviewed the California dermatologist and searched their Irvine home.

Yu was arrested outside her dermatology office in Mission Viejo on Thursday night. Irvine Police told CBS Los Angeles that Yu did not poison her husband's food. It remains unclear how she used the poison on him.

California Dermatologist Poisoned Husband

Irvine police Lt. Bill Bingham told Daily Mail that their officers had reviewed the video evidence. Bingham noted that the allegations were "incredibly serious," adding that they thought it was important to launch a quick investigative action based on the accusations.

The police officer said the husband did not seek medical treatment when he became ill. However, he was unable to provide details as to whether a blood test revealed the poison in his bloodstream.

Bingham noted that it appears that the poisoning happened over a period of time. He also said the motive is still under investigation, but it seems that it was a domestic-related incident between Yue Yu and her husband.

Yu's husband told the police officers that he suspected his wife had been poisoning him, prompting him to install a surveillance video to confirm it.

Bingham said he had seen accidental poisoning cases among children, but intentional poisoning cases are not common. He noted that this case was "highly unusual" and "unique."

California Dermatologist Arrested

Fox News reported that Yue Yu is affiliated with Providence Mission Hospital and has more than 16 years of experience in the field.

Her headshot was removed from her employer's website. Meanwhile, a company spokesman said they were cooperating with the police.

Bingham was not able to detail what type of poison Yu's husband ingested. But he noted that the husband started developing symptoms that worsened over the last month.

He said their detectives contacted Yu as she was leaving her workplace. They then interviewed her and were placed under arrest after the interview.

Bingham noted that Yu was arrested under a section of California law that alleges she placed a poison or harmful substance in food, drink, medicine, or pharmaceutical product.

Yu and her husband lived together in a $2.7 million home in Irvine. A search warrant was conducted by Irvine police officers at the home after the California dermatologist's arrest.

Providence Mission Hospital said in a statement that the incident was a domestic issue and has not affected patient care.

Yu was reportedly taken to Orange County Jail after her arrest, and her bail was set at $30,000. She was released after posting bond on Friday and is set to appear in court on Monday.
