Millions of 4moms MamaRoo infant swings and hundreds of thousands of RockaRoo rockers are being recalled due to entanglement and strangulation hazards after a baby died from asphyxiation.

The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Thorley Industries or 4moms announced Monday a recall for more than two million MamaRoo swings and 220,000 RockaRoo rockers.

CPSC Recalls 4moms MamaRoo Swings, RockaRoo Rockers

According to USA Today, the recall included the 4moms MamaRoo Baby Swing, all from versions 1.0 through 4.0, and RockaRoo Baby Rockers. 4moms is a brand of Thorley Industries. Thousands of the products are also being sold in Canada.

"When the swing or rocker is not in use, their restraint straps can hang below the seat and non-occupant crawling infants can become entangled in the straps, posing entanglement and strangulation hazards," the CPSC said in a statement about the voluntary recall.

The move to recall comes after the company Thorley Industries received two incident reports of entanglement on the two MamaRoo swings.

Among the two incidents is a fatal one. A 10-month-old baby reportedly died of asphyxiation after being strangulated on the strap. The other 10-month infant sustained bruising to his neck.

4moms Offers Repair, Quick Fix for the Recalled MamaRoo Units

Although the incidents to both 10-month infants reportedly occurred when they crawled under the seat of unoccupied MamaRoo swings, the other baby was saved after a caregiver immediately rescued the infant.

4moms has already made a quick fix on the issue - a free strap fastener kit. According to the company, the free strap fastener kit was designed as an easy-to-install fix for the dangling strap. The new strap could prevent infants from being strangled should they access it unattended.

"We strongly urge our consumers, retailers, and re-seller partners to implement the strap fastener solution to ensure the complete safety of our products," 4moms CEO Gary Waters said in a statement.

This voluntary recall includes only MamaRoo models that use a three-point harness: version 1.0 and 2.0 (model number 4M-005), version 3.0 (model number 1026), and version 4.0 (model number 1037).

The MamaRoo model that uses a 5-point harness is not included in this recall. Consumers can see the model number at the bottom of the product.

The company is reaching out to all consumers who have purchased the product to coordinate with them for the recall. 4moms' official website contains the necessary contact information to arrange the return and repair.

The swings and rockers were sold at BuyBuy Baby and Target stores nationwide and online at 4moms.com and Amazon from January 2010 to August 2022 at prices between $160 and $250.
