The Republicans are not doing as well as many have hoped in the midterm elections, as candidates endorsed by former President Donald Trump lost many of their respective races. In a rare rebuke, conservative outlets owned by Rupert Murdoch, including the New York Post and the Wall Street Journal, have blamed Trump for these losses. Meanwhile, Fox News has stayed mostly silent, but they allowed pundits to attack the former president for the losses.

The conservative outlets' attacks on Trump were unkind, with the New York Post headline reading "Trumpty Dumpty." The editorial stated that Trump was responsible for sabotaging the Republican Party, and even gave the former president a Trump-style nickname, "Toxic Trump."

According to the Associated Press, media magnate Rupert Murdoch was once one of Trump's biggest backers, with his outlets often showering the former president with praise. However, these opinion pieces have raised questions on whether Trump has fallen out of favor with Murdoch.

New York Post Mocks Donald Trump While Wall Street Journal Calls Him the 'Biggest Loser'

The New York Post has been known for its conservative views, often attacking Democrats. However, their front page mocked Trump and presented him as the nursery rhyme, Humpty Dumpty. The newspaper wrote "Don (who couldn't build a wall) had a great fall - can all of the GOP's men put the party back together again?" on the front page with an image of Trump as "Trumpty Dumpty."

The New York Post implored his supporters to accept the truth that "Toxic Trump is the political equivalent of a can of Raid." They said that the recent midterm elections suggest that "Trump is perhaps the most profound vote repellent in modern American history."

The conservative news outlet then added, "[t]he surest way to lose in these midterms was to be a politician endorsed by Trump." They did admit that while Trump-backed candidates did well in deep-red states, they pointed out that Trump-backed candidates did not do so well in more competitive races like Pennsylvania and Michigan.

The sentiment was echoed by a fellow-Murdoch outlet the Wall Street Journal, which outright stated that Trump was indeed the biggest loser in the elections. It pointed out that Trump had "a perfect record of electoral defeat" since winning the presidency in 2016.

Fox News Remained Largely Quiet About Republican Losses

While the Post and the Journal were quite clear in their opinions on Donald Trump, Fox News was mostly silent. Some trod lightly, like Jessie Watters who talked about a possible Trump-Biden rematch. Meanwhile, Laura Ingram did not mention Trump by name but said the populist movement is about ideas, not one person.

While conservative hosts were mostly trying to avoid the Trump issue, a "Fox & Friends" guest told Trump outright that he should move on and endorse Florida Governor Ron DeSantis instead. This comes as more and more conservative outlets under Rupert Murdock's News Corp are moving towards DeSantis and distancing themselves from Trump.
