King Charles III delivered his first-ever Christmas speech, mentioning Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, but the names of Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, did not come up.

Christmas speech is considered to be a "major tradition" for the monarch in England. In his speech this week, Charles paid tribute to his late mother, Queen Elizabeth III, and cited the recent visit of William and Kate to Wales.

"The Prince and Princess of Wales recently visited Wales, shining a light on practical examples of this community spirit," said the King, who did not mention the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The Sussexes recently released their Netflix docuseries airing their grievances about the royal family, the British tabloids, and their mental health struggles with their royal roles.

According to HELLO!, Charles' speech that was broadcasted to the nation on Christmas Day included shots of William and Kate from charitable work they were doing at St. Thomas Church in Swansea last September as working members of the royal family.

However, Harry and Meghan did not make it into the final cut. The reason was that the couple had already stepped down from their royal roles. In a pre-recorded speech at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, King Charles also expressed his gratitude to the public for the support after his mother's death.

King Charles III 'Snubbing' Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Former royal butler Grant Harrold commented on the King's decision to leave Prince Harry and Meghan Markle out of the BBC-broadcasted Christmas speech.

Harrold said it was "sensible" when asked by GB News presenters Ellie Costello and Emily Carver if what King Charles III did in his Christmas speech was a "snub" or a sensible move.

Harrold noted that he thought it was probably best "not to have mentioned them" with everything that happened recently.

The former royal butler also believed that the Sussexes were not mentioned, probably because they were no longer working members of the royal family.

Harrold noted that there was no "any real reason" to mention Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as they have "never done anything of significance as members of the royal family."

Royal Family on Christmas Day

King Charles III and his wife Camilla reportedly led members of the royal family to church on Christmas morning. It was the first time that the family celebrated the holiday without Queen Elizabeth.

Members of the royal family went to St. Mary Magdalene Church before heading back to Sandringham House for Christmas dinner.

Prince Andrew also joined in the Christmas Day church outing after he stepped back from his royal role in 2019 and was stripped of his military titles and patronages by his mother earlier this year.

The Duke of York has been involved in sexual harassment allegations after he was connected to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Despite being stripped of his royal duties and titles, he is still part of family events.

In March, the late queen insisted that her son escort her during the Service of Thanksgiving honoring her late husband, Prince Philip. Andrew was beside her despite uneasiness among senior members of the royal family.
