Lionel Messi is set for a return to Paris Saint-Germaine with what may be an awkward reunion with Kylian Mbappe and French fans after beating them in the World Cup. So, when will the Argentinian return to play for PSG in Ligue 1?

According to CNN, it will be early next year. PSG coach Christophe Galtier said that he would be back in Paris around January 2nd or 3rd. This begs the question Saudi Arabia fans have been asking since their team upset Argentina in the World Cup opener, "Where is Messi?"

Messi is continuing his soccer break back home in Rosario, Argentina, enjoying his much-deserved break after his huge World Cup victory.

However, Parisian fans seem annoyed at Messi at the moment, as many PSG fans felt that the Argentinian World Cup champion was vacationing a bit too much. According to El Futbolero, Messi might find himself in a hostile environment back in Paris, as fans there have voiced their annoyance at Messi's extended vacation on social media.

As for the team, PSG's scary offensive trident of Neymar, Mbappe, and Messi will reunite on January 11 as they take on Angers.

World Cup Stars to Return to Paris Saint-Germaine on Wednesday as Ligue 1 Resumes After Break

While Messi is recuperating, PSG is aiming to win Ligue 1 again, even without one of their "Big 3." In fact, PSG is saying that Brazil's Neymar and France's Kylian Mbappe will be suiting up for the club on Wednesday, along with Morocco's Achraf Hakimi, in a Ligue 1 match against Strasbourg, as long as they are fine not just physically, but also mentally, according to Galtier.

The French domestic season will be returning after a six-week midseason break that happened because of the World Cup. Paris Saint-Germaine is looking good so far at the top of the league with a 5-point lead over Lens.

Mbappe, Neymar, and Hakimi are all experiencing World Cup disappointment, and the PSG coach stated that playing football will help them after their disappointing campaign. He said that he also sent messages of support to the players who suffered heartbreaks during the tournament, as well as messages of congratulations to those who went far.

FC Barcelona President Joan Laporta Slammed for Failing to Bring Back Lionel Messi

While Paris Saint-Germaine managed to somehow keep its scary three-headed dragon of an offense intact, former UEFA champions FC Barcelona, where Lionel Messi used to play for over two decades, is lamenting their failure to re-sign their former superstar.

Spain's La Liga had financial rules that left its president, Joan Laporta, in a difficult position, thus allowing PSG to re-sign Messi. However, even with that, Laporta's rival for the club's presidency, Victor Font, slammed him and said that Barca could have "maximized the value of the team" by keeping Messi.

Font pointed out that as soon as Laporta was elected president in March 2021, he failed to bring back the Argentinian, according to The Mirror. In an article he wrote for a Spanish newspaper, Font wrote, "Barca has not lived up to the historical dimension of the figure of Messi."
