The Los Angeles Dodgers faced a scary moment when infielder Gavin Lux tried to dodge a thrown ball and rolled on his ankle in the process. Now, it seems that he will be missing the rest of the 2023 season because of that injury.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts stated that the infielder was "obviously crushed" and that the injury was "a huge blow" to the team. Lux reportedly suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and was recently seen leaning on crutches inside the team's facility in Glendale, Arizona.

However, Roberts revealed that the injury was bigger than expected, as he also damaged his ACL. The Los Angeles Dodgers star is expected to undergo surgery on March 7.

According to ESPN, the scary injury happened in a game against the San Diego Padres on Monday. He was running between the second and third bases when his right knee buckled before he stumbled forward and fell. Lux stated that he felt something pop, and then his leg went numb.

LA Dodgers Did Extensive Tests on Gavin Lux After Suffering Injury

Dodgers athletic staff ran manual tests on the Dodgers star once he was back in their clubhouse. While they showed some strength in the right knee, it was clear that Lux suffered some big damage in the area. He was then driven by a team employee in his truck, with Lux seen riding in the back seat.

Lux then underwent further testing shortly after. It was then discovered that he might be out for the rest of the season, according to the official MLB website.

For now, Roberts is saying that veteran Miguel Rojas is expected to fill in for Lux as he rests his knee. However, another potential candidate for that starting shortstop spot is Chris Taylor.

Rojas stated that he is prepared to play a bigger role in the team but admits he does feel bad for Lux, who had been working hard to be the "everyday shortstop for this team." Rojas added that Lux was a big part of the club and that he just feels bad for what his teammate is going through.

As for Lux, he says that he is ready to "crush" his rehabilitation and be ready to return in 2024, as it was the only thing he could do at the moment.

LA Dodgers Could Suffer Depth Problems With Gavin Lux Injury

Sports commentator Jon Weisman previously pointed out that the Dodgers infield was already fragile. With Lux's injury now haunting the team, the sports commentator pointed out that it is expected to be bad and said that the "dominoes fall."

He stated in his column that opening day is still on March 30, but the LA Dodgers still have a long way to go. For now, Weisman pointed out that the team may have to trade prospects to get a true replacement.
